Posted By Rachel 2008 I wondered if anyone could give me some advice as to which course I should be taking. I currently work for a large Engineering company as an Administrator and I take an active part in Health and Safety duties in the office. I passed my NEBOSH certificate last year and want to further my career/abilities in Health and Safety. I was thinking of doing the Safety, Health and Environmental Management Professional Diploma and have been accepted on this course. My concern is that I don't want to waste my money doing this course only to find that it doesn't get me any further. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Posted By Robert Paterson Hi Rachel It really depends on what you are trying to acheive. If you are seeking membership of IOSH, then I would suggest you have a look at the membership section and they will be able to tell you of the accredited courses for membership. Regards Robert

Posted By MickN Rachel, Go for it. You will find few doors closed to you with the diploma in your back pocket. Normally the people behind the diploma like to see that applicants have completed the cert first as it improves the chances of a candidate finishing the course. In other words, you completed the cert and should therefore know what it takes to complete further studies. As has been stated above, check the diploma with IOSH, you may not be seeking membership but it would be nice to know that the course you're doing is on the approved list. Mick

Posted By Nicola Daglish Hi Rachel, I have a couple of Health and Safety positions that I am recruiting for at the moment. My client will only accept people with the NEBOSH Diploma and I am finding there is a real skill shortage for this particular qualification. I can find lots of candidates with the Certificate, but hardly anyone with the diploma. If anyone has this an is interested, I have two permanent vacancies, one in Cheltenham Area and one in North London. Hope this helps? Nikki

Posted By DP Rachel - Can I presume then that the Dip is the Nott's Trent at Mancat or Wigan? - excellent course. You have the NGC - you are currently gathering plenty of experience in you role the natural progression is a level 6 qualification. May I suggest that you speak with your line manager to see if you could possibly get involved in safety in the engineering side of the business also. When you pass the Dip all you need then is some experience and you seem well placed to gain that. Go for it, you won't regret it.
