Posted By CFT Peter Are there any openings within your current employment to move from 'UR' to a H&S position? With that level of staff you would have a fairly robust HR/H&S department and it may be prudent to see if it is possible then consider your options at a slightly later date. the current economic climate is making life difficult for man and this may not actually be the best time in your life to move on. Just a thought; no doubt one you have already considered I would imagine. CFT

Posted By Petersham2003 Oh the Boss HR wants me, they love me, but I do not know if I could swallow the bullet they (H+S) not the most friendly of people. I represented a H+S employee who was bullied out of the dept cos he blew the whistle. Works for diff company, walked out with nice ET payment. So my Current employer a no no.... Re H+S They would like me to do employee relations good money, but would prefer to stay in H+S make a change so to speak. Im looking at NEBOSH but practically i have the experience, just a shame these days employers want nebosh CMOSH and all those fancy letters. Not a shop floor person who been there seen it done it.

Posted By Pete48 Whether you intended it or not, to me your post portays you as an employee champion, not an H&S person. I do not mean that in any way to read as disapproving or patronising, just straightforward feeedback and on that basis then have you thought about approaching your union to see if they have any options either for direct employment within the union (in H&S) or to advise you on how to progress? "Changing sides" as you put it will never be easy and in some cases impossible. Your best chance, therefore, would seem to be the position within your current employer. You could use it as a stepping stone linked to some further study and in a few years your cv would read differently and, if I might make so bold, would make you more atractive to a wider group of employers. Best of luck with it all and I hope you succeed.

Posted By Petersham2003 Thanks for honest feed back, the union couldn't agree more with people champion. As I constantly use when discussing H+S the impact on employee's. Let that not distract from the core business of providing a safe and responsible workplace. Many times in the forums you see H+S professionals saying they hiting brick wall no listerns. Maybe due to championing employee's that's why I don't fail. You always see, well tell them about the cost of being sued, well what about a happy workplace is a productive workplace. Give what u can, let employee's see the MD listerns they work harder proven formula and it works. Productivity up, morasl up, its a win win. Maybe i just have a different prospective ??

Posted By mike maley I am in a similar situation. Been a steward for 3yrs and now a safety rep for a year. I have stood down as a steward so I can concentrate on H&S. There is zero career progression in my current role and I am looking at the "H&S" route. I am about to start my TUC H&S Stage 2 and would welcome any feedback as to my options after this.
