Hi Everyone,
I left the Royal Navy this year and have since passed the Gen Cert, and expecting a good result from the Const.Cert (find out 1st Dec). I've spent many years in water production & treatment,domestic hot and cold water systems, sewage treatment,pollution control etc,(all on warships), so I would presume my natural progression would be to move into water/environmental management. My problem is this, I can only afford to do one 'big' course due to time constraints and of course money. I cannot study full time as I need to work, which limits what I can do, to distance learning courses.I see these as my options;
NEBOSH Diploma
NEBOSH Envir. Diploma
BSc Environmental Studies
Diploma in Environmental Policy
Diploma in Pollution Control
I'm now 38 so if I make the wrong choice now it's getting a bit late to change my mind later. I'd really appreciate any feedback particularly from people with the above qualifications.

Personally i would go for the NEBOSH dip in HS, it seems a natural progression from the other NEBOSH certs you have under your belt. It is well recognised in industry and will get you gradiosh status. I know NVQ4ers will advise this route but it really depends on the work that you are currently doing as to weather this is a better option. I'm bios towards the Dip but don't want to start war of the worlds again on this topic.
Ex forces myself been out for 5 years now. The first couple of jobs were nothing to do with H & S but then i took the NBG, got a contract position in safety and have moved on from there. Just about finished the Dip now and its hard work but worth it.

I would stick to Diploma in H&S. Firstly, because it is widely accepted qualification in industries, and also easier route to IOSH memebrship.
2ndly, its a quicker route to obtain the qualifications compared toa degree.
Environmental Courses are good but it limits your chances to obtain H&S jobs.
The best advice from me would be to do a distance learning diploma course with BSC. It is cheaper and easier course compared to NEBOSH one. Or perhaps, you can only take the exams if you got the sufficient knowledge. (it'll be even cheaper)
However, whatever you do, my best wishes are with you.

I have an Env science degree and then did a range of NEBOSH cert, old diploma etc and BSC qualifications. However I recently found a course I wish i had completed years ago!
I would strongly recommend that you take the PGC and then PGD through Portsmouth Univ. If you do both HS modules & occupational health 1 in first year you get your foot up the IOSH ladder, and then in the second you can do both env modules which helps with IEMA membership and then if you pick the second OH modules as well by the end of the second year you will come out the basic entry requirements for 3 areas of the world of HSE!
I really enjoyed the courses.
