Could some of you more experienced practitioners out there let me know if more qualifications are of any real use in obtaining employment i.e. managing health and safety? I am vigorously going down all the routes suggested (thank you all) and coming up blank.
I will continue to work for my goal but to all out there who are in my position keep going
thanks
Chris

Depends where are at and where you want to be!!
Traditionally: Nebosh Certificate - followed by Nebosh Diploma or NVQ4 (Lets not even get into that arguement!!) should stand you in good stead.
You can also look at supplementing these with IEMA (As increasingly h&s and Env are comfortable bed fellows!!) an Auditing course of some variety, perhaps a Training (Train the trainer or similar) qualification (I did City and Guilds) to display your ability to communicate, teach, and pass on knowledge to your advisees.
It really depends on where you want to be - industry specifics and just what you fancy - because lets face it enjoying some of these courses is half the battle won!!

More like 'It depends how serious you want to work in HSE?'. Followed all routes of previous line and found out (on several occassions) that I was glad I learned the course stuff.
When I did move 4 years ago after doing NVQ4, I did get a £5K increase, which eventually paid for the money I had personally spent.
But like I said, its the learning that counts (or the knowledge to protect my but when the chips are down). Also consider this; the information is not always available on the web, when your stuck offsite in a field somewhere of its practicality and what the law wants.
I would say definately yes, and unfortunately most employers only recognise IOSH status.
