I have completed the NEBOSH Gen Cert and I am now embarking on the BSC Diploma – can any forum readers offer advice on any particular course(s) that will benefit a safety career off-shore?
Many Thanks

Hi Stuart,

The term 'offshore' is widely used loosely!

Are you looking at... Offshore production (e.g. platforms or FPSO's), Exploration - drilling units, Engineering - Barges or from ships?

They all have specialist skills attached as to knowledge of the environment, equipment, work force etc.

There have been previous posts this and main advice is that a lot of people have had some kind of work experience then branch off into the H&S roles. Many agencies would be looking for past offshore experience i would expect. Though unsure these days as i have been land based a few years now.... 1 1/2 to get to work instead of 3 days!

best of Luck!
Tony

Basically to work offshore you will need Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training (Including HUET and EBS) OPITO Approved (like by RGIT Montrose) and a offshore medical for UK and Norway (from your GP). However going offshore as a green hat (inexperienced) is a bold and challenging move in which it can be difficult to get started.

Not impossible however and any offshore or similar experience (maritime or oil/gas) you have will no doubt count as an advantage.

Email me if you want any further info or as already stated give the forums a search, this specialist area has been discussed 1-2 times before already
