Posted By andy.c. Hi I started visiting this site at the beginning of the year, and have throughly enjoyed the threads, both from a enterest and educational viewpoint. I have spent more than 25 years in distribution, logistics and transport, have been a FLT instructor/examiner for 15 years and in my last role a duty holder for 3 years all that said the only H&S qualification i hold is the older version of IOSH MS. being +40 now is probably not the idael time to decide on a career change but i would like to follow my heart and believe i can make a differance. Where should i start, what route should i be looking at (nebosh, iosh, NVQ ect) any courses would be self funded and probably need to be distant learning Any and all advise would be appreciated in pointing me in the right direction to getting a foot on the first rung of a long ladder to being a safety professional many thanks Andy

Posted By I. M. Twining Hi Andy, you don't say whether you are currently employed or not. Given that you will be self-funding the course suggests that your not or that the company you work for would not support you. Either way good luck with your new start. Personally I started (a long time ago) with the IOSH 5 day Managing Safely course and then onto the NEBOSH General Certificate. I'm currently in the process of gaining my NEBOSH Diploma which I should have done years ago, but having worked for one company for more than 10 years there was never a need to get it before. If you look on here and on the NEBOSH website they offer several courses which could suit you, be they full-time, day-release or distance learning. The NVQ route is another possibility but again it would need you to be employed and for the company to support you in your efforts for you to get the best out of it. Another suggestion is to look at the jobs that are on offer and see if you can get a start that way and get them to fund your training. There are some jobs out there (I hope so anyway). Hope this helps in some way. Ian
