I have spent the last couple of weeks reading and getting involved in some of the discussions within this and the OSH forum and have found that the wealth of knowledge quite impresive. Because of this, I decided to improve my current certification and qualifications by doing and compoleting the NVQ Lv 4.
So, my question is does anyone have any thoughts on the next step as I seemed to be getting tempted towards completing the A1 and V1?
Is there an assessor reading this and thinking that the job market is still as harsh even for us, and diversifying to this route will not make any difference.
Either way, your thoughts and suggestions will not fall on deaf ears, as, unfortunatley I too have become a casualty of the current climate and placed on the redundant pile.
Looking forward to reading your responses.

Hi Charlie
I am about to finish my NVQ4 and am considering a similar route as I am not sure what to do next or what will add value for the future. Speak to your local college as they may be able to offer some support in finding candidates for assessment if your company is not currently offering any NVQ's.

Just to update this thread, I have recently been made redundant from my current position but subsequently have been taken on by a training company to deliver H&S in general for their office and training to NVQ lv2 and 3 in retail and warehousing.
To all those cynics' out there, there are jobs for H&S bods you just need to look at diversifying your roles abit. I did and ended up in a better position with more money.
It's not a miracle cure for everyone, but to those of you stuck in a rutt, look at training.
Thanks
to all who have given me advice etc over the last couple of months and I will keep adding and replying as time goes on.
Thanks All
Charlie

i have completed an assessors certificate as part of my ongoing training as a part time trainer, also just complted the general certificate in health and safety. next doing construction certificate, which will add weight when applying for training jobs in health and safety, so yes having an assessors qualificate A1 AWARD will be an asset. consider also do a teaching training course not necessarily the cert ed but another less accademic course like the ceft- certificate of education and training. i did and its proving to be of interest to training companies when i have enquired about work.
good luck

I know a health and safety advisor who also does NVQ assessments and delivers NVQ courses inbetween any health and safety work. He seems to fit both in and is never out of work because of the choice of work he can deliver. He also enjoys every day of his working life, I'd say its a good idea to complete the A1 and V1.
