Afternoon everyone!

I really could do with some wise words!!

I've been looking around for a new job since passing the General Certificate. I have roughly three years' experience in health & safety and really enjoy it. My current employers don't have a career structure which would allow me to progress in a health & safety role, hence the looking around for something else.

My background is in retail and the leisure industry. Half of me wants to concentrate in finding a role in these areas as it's well inside my comfort zone. But the other half wants to go somewhere different where I get to learn loads of new things and widen my experience. I've been looking at a wide range of roles out there, but either nothing appeals to me or I'm not qualified/experienced enough (which is fair enough!)

Has anyone else gone round and round in circles like me? Any advice will be most welcome, as I'm stressing myself out quite a bit!

Many thanks in advance,

Eliza :-)

Hi Eliza,

H&S is just the same as all the other professions - the only way people progress and grow is to try different things, either roles or sectors. Go upwards, sideways and hopefully both at once - just never go backwards.

I went from engineering to H&S, ( H&S in Universities, to entertainment, to banks, to engineering in banks).

I would suggest you avoid senior posts in high-risk industry until you are better experienced to cope with them :-) , but retail to education to entertainment to offices to tourism etc., all seems possible to me.

The fact you have asked suggests there is a hunger to move, so go for it.
