Hi Guys,

I am a Nebosh General Cert holder with 12 plus years experience in the construction industry.
I have been offshore for 4 years and am fairly well clued up on working at height and loler type stuff.
I have applied for a million jobs and never had a sniff from anyone.
I also worked my last long term job (13 months)as a rigger,but helped out as a safety rep for my company on the platform.
My CV basically reads all of this but is there any help ayone could give me?
Any buzz words or anything I should look to include or am I basically gonna have to lie?

It may not be the CV that is the problem. The oil and gas industry is contracting in the current financial climate. Day-rates are being cut for many [reference removed] (so they start looking for other positions), dozens of projects have been cancelled/postponed and associated personnel 'let go'and hence they are also applying for the same roles you will be chasing. At the moment you will be in competition with serious numbers of Diploma-qualified [reference removed], many with 20+ years experience. I know because I've seen the CVs. The last thing you should do is lie. This is a global village, and virtually every HSE Manager knows each other - any CVs of interest are usually followed up with a phone call to the relevant HSE Manager to ask about the candidate. My suggestion would be that you target those companies who are most relevant to your previous experience. Try RBG or Salamis. Don't fall for the line that "We'll keep your CV on file" - in my experience there is rarely any follow-up, as they have so many speculative CVs coming through each day.

I agree wholeheartedly but you will find that Salamis and RBG are in the same boat and are restructuring to adapt to current market, generally this will mean no creation of new positions and you'll have to wait until someone leaves. Good luck anyway the market will sort itself out soon and things wont be so hard.

Unless you can squeeze onto a production platform with a contractor.... last time I looked there are only about 8 drilling units currently on hire in the UK sector
