Im currently employed as an asbestos analyst/surveyor but am looking to expand my horizons and carry out fire risk assessments both in-house and for myself for external clients. Either study from home or close by in an evening.
Does anyone know of a decent course near Manchester? Ive found one course with BRE in Watford but its close to £4000 which is a bit much in the current climate and one for approx £800.
I dont want to be ripped off paying to much for a course thats not worth the paper its written on or paying for a course thats not industry recognised.
Thanks

Hi,
I am just completing the NEBOSH Fire Safety & Risk Management certificate, I managed to get the exams through as an external candidate at Forth Valley College.
Total cost for myself has been £375 including text books. RRC are quite reasonable on cost.

£4000 seems excessive for a training course if you are looking for one covering Fire Risk Assessment etc. NEBOSH have a course called the Fire Safety & Risk Management course. I completed it a couple of years ago and it only cost around £800. As I already had a qualification in H&S I only had to sit the fire safety element which was a week long. If you have no H&S background I believe you have to undertake the risk management element in addition, i stand to be corrected on that point though. I would certainly not pay £4000 for something equivalent. Are you sure that was not a diploma in OSH?
If you look on the NEBOSH website for courses and course providers it will provide you with a list of nationwide training providers, of which the North West will almost certainly be catered for.

Forgot to mention, as a Luton Town supporter, the thought of spending any time in Watford is not something I would want to do anyway !

John,
I believe I am correct in saying that if you have passed the General cert, or Construction cert in the last five years you are exempt the management paper. Ensure, (if you have passed either), you let your provider know.
I did the Fire Risk Man Cert about 3 years ago for around £600 so £4000 does seem expensive.
Good luck
Tony
