Hmm, what will look good on the CV?

Something like …..Professor of Relativistic Cosmology & Quantum Theory

That was only a joke by the way. It all depends what you want do yourself. What looks good on the CV depends upon peoples' perceptions. (which aren't the same)

I thought people wanting a "T t T" qualification did it to improve their skill of imparting knowledge to others so you can be more effective at helping others to learn and develop. Apologies if that sounds too flippant it is not meant to.

Because possibly I have been through the teaching/training learning hoops I do however recognise and understand, that having a qualification that is visibly credible can be just as important. More importantly to me though, is that people can actually perform in the environment they call a classroom (which is where a small minority who have lower or even higher levels of training experience or qualification do not perform).

I would ask how deeply do you want to understand how to interpret and analyse peoples training/learning/assessment needs. How far down the technical route of developing and using different teaching or training techniques do you want to go?

An important part of the learning process is what do you understand about the assessment process? How much do you want to understand about the different forms of assessment and their practical uses/drawbacks? Do you want to learn how to manipulate the many varieties of assessment formats to prevent "Assessment Boredom"?

Some courses just teach you how to "Chalk and talk" or "Powerpoint Boredom", whilst others do actually develop your teaching techniques.

However knowing about the general standard of trainers coming from the Armed Service and Uniformed Service Sector, (I was one once myself), I would suggest that you undertook something a little more challenging.

Huddersfield University have a Certificate of Adult Education which is delivered by many Colleges under licence that would supplement and develop further your uniformed service skills/knowledge/techniques.

If you want, send me an email - and if I can offer further advice or choices of options, I am only too pleased to be of help.

In my time I have had to take upteem train / trainer courses. Not one organisation recognises the others qualification and vice versa.

For the past few months I have tried to get approval from a credible organisation for my train the trainers course for drivers CPC.

To no avail.

I have finally decided to encourage the trainers to go for an SVQ (NVQ) in learning and development. This could be level 2,3,4 or 5 depending on cirumstances.

This will enable them to gain membership of British Institute of Learning and Development.

You could also try:

Hope this helps

Thank you or your replies guys. Just read my post again. I enjoy training and not the type to sit with power points or chalk.
But the reason I was asking is as I mentioned I was in the fire service and only have in house qulifications.
Well I have a year long contract and want to add to my CV due to the current job market.
Hope I did not come accross as a desperado out to traing and not care how student leave the course.

I have used Abertay and found the courses to be pretty good, I guess others will have had good and not so good experiences as with any other training provider.

the course offered always seem to be good value - I undertook the First Aid trainers course a few years ago and more recently sent some of my team on the Manual Handling instructors Course.

I am considering the October PTLLS course at Bellshill as it seems a good price and one of only a few venues in Scotland.
