There are a number of new developments in Kuwait and other Middle East countries, including Chevron's support for the new Saudi Petroleum Services Polytechnic (SPSP). I was somewhat disconcerted, though, that IOSH did not have a role in the validity of the health & safety training offered at the college, but there may be some future opportunity.

I'd appreciate hearing from others working in Kuwait. So far, I've only encountered one other IOSH member at Saudi Arabian Chevron, over at Joint Operations in Wafra.

There are quite a few people on the forum who are looking for opportunities or new starts. There are some considerable opportunities just now in Kuwait and in other Middle East operations, if people are willing to look beyond the shires for roles in the oil industry or the construction industry. Both of these appear to have considerable opportunities for experienced engineers and OSH professionals, in advisory and training roles.

I have just returned from the UAE and most safety roles offered were in the Oil and Construction sectors; however I did note new roles opening up for FM and corporate managers towards the end of my time there.

I am guessing this is tied to the fact that they have recently built all this great new stuff and established new companies and the opening up of new safety roles is natural progression.

So I expect there will be continuing demand for safety professionals in this area.

But in relation to your question, IOSH has a middle east group with many members so suggest you and others intrested in/ working in the region make contact. They are a great bunch.

I have just started work in Kuwait after contract positions in the UK becoming somewhat scarce. I have been in and out of work for many major oil company around contraction and even done some offshore, however I think I will be in Kuwait for a few years till the UK picks up a bit.

Good to hear you're here as well. I've since heard of another IOSH member working here at Saudi Arabian Chevron.

Although we were fully deployed in the UK (despite the downturn and a struggling oil price), we looked at this Chevron assignment in Kuwait as an interesting opportunity for the next couple of years.

So far it's been much better than expected.
