Hi

I'm considering a move to Canada, can anyone who has already made a move and is working in safety comment on the job situation right now? Do many Canadian companies hire UK people?

I would be looking at a base in Alberta (Calgary) possibly.

I am CMIOSH but guess I would have to convert by quals to the Canadian equivalent to gain a position, my background is mainly engineering.

What sort of average salary is available for a qualified individual?

Do companies normally sort out a work permit or is that something you must do yourself before moving?

So many questions..........

Any advice/comment would be very welcome.

Mart - Canada has a points based system, speaking french, having plenty of money and having a degree help.

The benchmark is the CRSP - Canadian Registered Safety Professional, website below also includes jobs:

www.bcrsp.ca

Unless you are moving to an area that is desperate for UK workers you would need to sort your own application out I suspect.

In demand jobs also attract points and the canadian government publishes a list regularly, I havent seen H&S on it, but strangely if you can fix air-conditioning or cook you might stand a better chance, a doctor from asia who came into Canada as a chef initially.

I suspect some of the provinces are keen to get UK workers in and operate a different or more supportive system, but the Canadian immigration department is the best place to start for that.

Good luck, its a great country.
