I have a year visa to work in Canada & plan to go to Vancounver in January 2010. I have been working in Health & Safety for the last 8 years with experience in Construction, Utilities & Telecoms & i have a recognised Health & Safety Masters qualification.
Anyone have any good recruitment information or just information in general on Health & Safety positions/job availability in Vancouver/Canada?

Greetings Emma,
Good luck in Vancouver, but don't hold your breath!
I have very recent experience in living and working there (20 months) as a senior HSE practitioner. The market is very tight at the moment and a lot of well qualified and long experienced Canadian safety people are out of work at the moment.
I moved on last August to greener pastures but I am in constant touch with my old safety team in Vancouver and have recently helped 2 of them to get work overseas as opportunities in BC are few. Thank you very much for your reply, much appreciated. Obviously, I am hugely dismayed to find out that this is the case! Is construction/civils/telecoms industry moving at a slow pace in Vancouver in 2009? Is there anywhere else in Canada where you might recommend? Did you have to relocate due to lack of work? Is it worthwhile applying for jobs on the net? I havn't booked my flight but had planned on doing so in the next week or two- might need to seriously reconsider given your advices! Where overseas did your colleagues get work?
