Posted By Angela Marshall Has anyone come across any information regarding verrucas in schools and the problems they may cause in PE, if the children have to do PE in bare feet. I am looking for any information but if you know of any printed leaflets I would be glad to know how to get hold of them.

Posted By Mark Preston Its always worth first checking with your local Health Authority's Public Health Department. The Public Health Laboratory Service gives this (terse) advice: http://www.phls.co.uk/advice/schools/warts.htm If you'd like to know a bit more about the infectious risk try this: http://www.jr2.ox.ac.uk/...dolier/band31/b31-3.html and more from the same journal here: http://www.jr2.ox.ac.uk/...olier/band34/b34-11.html

Posted By Ken Taylor The current wisdom seems to be not to exclude from swimming and PE or to require protective covering other than a waterproof plaster. The advice quoted comes from Professor Cameron, Medical Advisor to the Amateur Swimming Association and argues for progressive viral immunity. He states that many dermatologists feel that as the virus is so widespread, it could be beneficial to spread it as much and as early as possible in the lives of children. Most enlightened associations and bodies, he claims, believe that the exclusion of children with plantar warts from barefoot activities - such as swimming, PE, dancing or cummunal showering is no longer justified.
