Posted By Mike McDonnell I am currently reviewing our emergency procedures with regards winding down passenger lifts, I am torn between Training Authorised & Trained staff in - house to be responsible, or requiring the lift engineer to be called out - I would be gratefull for any observations, in addition I need to consider hydraulic lifts. mike.mcdonnell@co-op.co.uk

Posted By John Donaldson There is nothing particularly difficult about rewinding lifts in most but not all situations. Our in house staff have been trained to perform this operation but are well aware of situations in which the lift engineers must be called in. In which case they would reassure any trapped persons until the engineers arrive. Incidentally its normally easier to wind up. We have a full range of lifts, conventional traction lifts, hydraulic and a paternoster.
