Posted By David J Bristow I heard on the wireless tonight on the way home that the transport industry is to have to work within the framework of the "working time directive" and unlike some occupations they will not be able to opt out. The changes are to take effect, I belive in 2003. The unions are backing the move for the transport industry to "come under the directive" because of the safety issues involved. What they are saying is that employers should pay more so that drivers dont have to work overtime to earn a living. What was also mentioned was that people working in transport warehousing would have to abide by the directive even though they were not drivers, merley becasue they belong to the transport industry. Hope this helps. Regards David B
