Posted By Graham Sargeant As part of my daily work within a tool hire environment I'm looking at the possabilities of giving training to some of my customers in the errection of alloy scaffold towers, I myself have a PASMA approved certificate from the manufacturers of the towers and have been dealing with the use of scaffold towers for about 15 years, also I am currently studying for the NEBOSH general certificate (hence the interest in spreading the word of H&S), would I need any other qualifications to do this type of training within the company I work for? I would appreciate any guides you may be able to give...Thanks

Posted By Peter J Harvey Why not give CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) a call on 01485 577577, they will advise you.

Posted By Robert K Lewis Strictly speaking you hold the only appropriate qualification with PASMA providing you have updated, and continue to do so, as the PASMA Code is revised. The next essential is that of all trainers - the ability to put the message across. It is good to hear this depth of interest from the Hire Shops and wish all were equally involved. Bob

Posted By Graham Sargeant I agree with you Bob, I don't think there are enough hire companies who deal with health and safety on the same level as profit and marketing, I know for a fact that some large multi-national shops have a flagship depot which the hire trade body 'the hire alliance' have checked out and given a clean bill of health, but away from the main office the other depots don't even stock goggles and ear protectors to offer to the customer, and I would challenge the competence to give demonstrations some of the staff have!!! The hire industry has come a long way from the dark ages it was in when I started, but not far enough yet. By the way the 'hire alliance' say to train for scaffold errection you need to be competent with reference to product knowledge and hold some kind of qualification which proves you can teach, examples they gave being a teachers training certificate course...any comments appreciated Graham
