Can any one tell me whether there is a risk of radiation from radio masts that are installed on buildings to enable radio communication. Radio communication consists of VHF and land based radios and the masts are usually 20 - 30 feet high.
Are there any guidelines for checking sush masts & in particular for protecting against lightning.

Short answer yes and yes
try http://www.icnirp.de/ and look under EMF. Protection is usaully by limiting access to roof (depends how powerful)and having a "do not transmit" permit to work where transmission equipment is isolated and locked off. Safe distances may also apply (it may be that the mast is high enough to prevent harm) so that only maintainers would be at risk.
Lighting protection - talk to Paul Douglas (H&S Manager)or one of the team atBest Services(01698) 374 101 - they install lighting ptotection.
