As a minimum - height/back/tilt adjustable with a "5-star" base.

Hi Same answer really
"The work chair shall be stable and allow the operator easy freedom of movement and a comfortable position.
The seat shall be adjustable in height.
The seat back shall be adjustable in both height and tilt.
A footrest shall be made available to anyone who wishes for one."

Dave, the above is specified in the regulations however there are a number of other things to consider. For example I have heard that some gas lift chairs are not suitable if the weight upon them could exceed 16 stone. Other considerations such as seat pan depth and softness of seat can effect workers. Castors should not be used on slippery surfaces eg Polished wooden floors/lab floors)
Chairs that are considered "VDU chairs" are adjustible in the dimensions mentioned by others above, this means that by adjusting the chair it is likely to suit a wide range of the population but will not suit all persons.
BS EN 29241 part 5 refers to chairs.

Seat Pan Height Adjustable between 16 -
and 20.5ins above floor.

Depth 15-17ins
width 18-19ins
Padding 1-2 ins over whole chair
Upholstery Breathable.

Backrest Height Adjustable 12-15 ins
Vertical Placemet Adjustable over range
2-4 ins

Width Minimum 12ins in the
lumbar region
Lumbar support backrest lumbar support
should be 6-9ins above
the seat pan.

Back rest Tilt Forward 10deg backward
5 degrees of movement.

Seat pan/Backrest angle Should remain in the
area of 90-105degs

Support Base 5 Castor base support

Armrests Approx 8 ins long
2 inches wide
between 7-11 inches
from seatpan
Distance one from the
other at least 18ins
Should be padded.
