Having "inherited" a number of files from the person previously responsible for H&S management, I am now in the process of archiving.
Can anyone please advise if there is a recommended timescale that H&S records relating to a project under CDM should be kept for?
Many thanks.

The health and safety file amounts to a normal maintenance manual incorporating risks that must be managed when the structure/associated plant is maintained, repaired, renovated or demolished. The CDM Regs (12) requires the client to keep the file and make it available for the Planning Supervisor and Designers on future projects and anyone else who has need of it. The file should be treated with as much importance as other legal documents such as leases/deeds/fire certificates, etc.
The fact that the file will be required for demolition purposes at some time in the future suggests that there are no time constraints as regards archiving the information.
Please feel free to contact me should you require any further information.
Regards
Rob
