Can anyone please confirm (and quote an authoritataive source) that leptospirosis can be caught from the urine of infected cattle.

HSE's Agriculture Information Sheet 2 - Common Zoonoses - states that leptospirosis can be caught from inhaling urine droplets from infected cattle (and, it says, about 60% of the UK herd is thought to be infected). However, this type of leptospirosis is not Weil's disease because it is a different strain of bacterium. Weil's disease is caused by leptospira hemorrhagiae wherease cattle-associated leptospirosis (CAL) is caused by leptospira hardjo. Not a lot of people know that!

There is a form of Leptospirosis where the host animal is cattle. That is Leptospirosis Hardjo. It is different from Leptospirosis Haemoragicae (spelling?) (also known as Weils disease).
The cattle version (from infected cattle urine) also leads to flu like symptoms and can lead to jaundice, meningitis and kidney failure.
