I'm planning to put together a policy on glazing. I work for MacIntyre Care which runs care homes, schools and day centres for people with learning disabilities - so impact and fire resistance are important issues. I gather that BS6262 (pt 1& 4) are codes of practice on glazing. Are they worth the combined fee of over £100? Do I need both parts? or is there a useful alternative publication? All responses gratefully recieved!

Why not borrow them from the library (and British Standard 6206). I assume you have already taken workplace regs into account? And the HSE guidance leaflet Workplace health and safety: Glazing - HSE guidance available at:

Hi Nigel,
Try looking at the following DETR webpage:
www.safety.dtlr.gov.uk/brad14.htm
It is in PDF format, and relates to impact, opening and cleaning.
Hope this helps,
Nick.

You may find sufficient for your purposes in L24 'Workplace Health Safety and Welfare' and HSG220 'Health & Safety in Care Homes' both from the HSE and the leaflet 'The Right Glazing in the Right Place' from the Glass & Glazing Federation (020 7403 7177).
