Posted By Ken Taylor If this is a workplace, I would expect automatic fire detection to be integrated with the existing fire alarm system and not to be of a self-contained or DIY type. The installers should be following both published codes and the manufacturers guidance - which will normally require detectors to be at the points to which smoke and combustion products will rise. The use of detectors with base sounders would reduce the need for separate sounders and suitably coloured cables should help with the visual impact if the wiring cannot be concealed. We have had to adopt this approach in our listed buildings.
