Does anyone know how a company stands in relation to safety with guard dogs?
There is a possibility that we will have a guard dog around our site, of which I am apposed to having.
Can anyone inform me of the legal issues regarding guard dogs, and the reasons for not having them?

Some years ago while enquiring into an incident in which an enforcement officer visiting a company's warehouse premises was bitten by a free roaming guard dog, I came across the Guard Dogs Act 1975. From recollection, the Act stipulates that such dogs should either be tethered or under the control of a handler - certainly in areas where employees and authorised visitors are likely or able to go. Have a search on the internet to see if the Act is still in force or succeeded by newer legislation.
I have heard of some Scottish distilleries using geese instead of dogs to guard their premises (presumably far less easy to dope geese than dogs with baited food), but doubt if there is any legislation which directly deals with guard geese!

The Guard Dogs Act 1975 is still in force AFAIK.
