Posted By sitewarden ( PAUL) MEWP’S The procedure of wearing a harness, tying off and anchorage points in an MEWP When working at a height depending upon the circumstances you are required to tie off. When working in a scissor lift, cherry picker or telescopic boom, there are anchorage points for this. This anchorage point is a small piece of metal welded at a angle to the frame. Upon asking the hire company do they test the this anchorage point their answer (NO why should we, you have a ( hand rail, mid rail and a toe board)??? ) The manufacturer puts these so called anchorage points in, sells the machine, the owner of the machine must surely be responsible for testing the machine!!!????( in my case the HIRE COMPANY) help….please help paul

Posted By Robert K Lewis This is a common problem as none seem too confident of their personnel to check this. Strictly I don't insist on the use of harnesses for scissor lifts, flying carpets. In common with HSE I see the range and unpredictability of movement for a cherry-picker as requiring the definite use. If the part is manufactured in the cage it should be no major problem to inspect and maintain. Some are hire shop fitted and great caution is required. Talk to IPAF about this - I am sure they will assist find a member who does inspect Bob
