Could anyone tell me what are the legal obligations of a college of further education with regards to trips and activities that are organised and paid for by the colleges student union?
Any advice would be most welcome.
Many thanks in advance.

If everything is arranged and paid for by the Students Union, then as far as I can tell the college has no Liability for the trip as it appears to have nothing to do with it.

In agreeing with Ashley's comments it would also be very prudent to complete suitable and sufficient Risk assessments for each of the visits to indicate, and show, the Student's Union had considered and assessed the potential for the unforeseen event.

Students unions are an independent body, and as such are responsible for their own actions. The NUS probably issue guidence on safety and risk assessment.
It would be prudent however for the associated college to carry out a quick audit of their systems. Any incident that does occur may be reported in the press, and it is the college, not the union, who's reputation will suffer as a result.
