This sounds like a no-brainer but here goes... We have hundreds of emergency showers, all alarmed & supplied with mains potable water pumped from a central storage tank (e.g. physically disconnected from the town mains). All shower units have a body-drench and eyewash facilities. The problem is that we have lots of underground water leaks and have to take banks of showers out of service while we dig them up quite frequently. It's become common practice to use untreated non-potable "raw" water from hoses connected to individual showers to maintain the supply while this occurs.
Anyone know of any guidance on water quality for emergency showers & eye-washes? I can't believe use of non-potable water is acceptable, especially for eye-wash purposes. My inclination is to supply eye-wash bottles somehow...

I wouldn't be too concerned about using non-potable water for emergency showers, there purpose is to wash off any nasty chemicals that may be on people, as long as they fullfil this purpose they are doing their job.
As far as the eye showers are concerned, I would supply wash bottles as they are a bit more delicate than skin.
On some sites I have worked on the standard practice is to supply non-potable water and provide eye wash bottles, so you are ok.
