Does the relevant Transport legislation allow such an item of mobile work equipment, which operates for short periods on the highway, to have a fixed screen guard to be fitted on the windshield? This type of guard does affect visibility slightly but also protects workers from any flying debris whilst loading. Some have said that the screen needs to be lifted whilst on the road so I will be grateful for any experience in theis area.

As far as am aware nothing specific in any Traffic / vehicle legislation, but there is the proviso that 'windscreens' must be clean and clear of obstructions. Cases and anecdotes suggest things like L plates would be "an obstruction" but furry dice, mabe not. The interpretation will be down to police then courts. On that subject, do police drive their "riot" vans with shields down?
