Posted By James Cullen has anyone purchased a digital or standard camera for use in an ex-rated area? Does anyone know a supplier? Alternatively, does anyone have a procedure for use of non ex-rated equipment in an ex-rated area? Regards, James Cullen cullenj3@wyeth.com

Posted By Jim Walker I suggest you contact HSE labs at Harpur hill, Buxton where they specialise in the sort of thing. Use a search engine to find them. They used to have a free consultation service for answering questions like yours; not sure if cutbacks have effected this.

Posted By John Webster Most places would permit the use of the camera under the control of a Hot Work Permit, especially in Zone 1 and 2. Flash use will likely be restricted. The alternative, if you can't find an intrinsically safe camera (and if there were such a beast it is bound to be expensive) is to go back to basics - I used to keep an old Zenith B for use on the oil rigs. No batteries, no electronics, no hassle. John
