The new Health and Safety (Miscellaneous Amendments Regulations) 2002 will have a significant impact on our organisation in terms of the requirements to train DSE operators, and offer eye tests BEFORE they start work. I am currently looking at the impact of the amendments to PUWER 98 under these Regs - is anyone else feeling the effects of these Regs?
Cheers,
Eric

What is the problem? You can purchase a simple computer based training package for and DSE and require people to run through it on their induction.
Cardinus supply an excellent package that we use for this.

Eric,
your correct it appears to be a pain. However I have to wonder if these changes will mean the enforcing authorities will actually take the DSE regs seriously? I can name a several govennment departments who didnt apply the regs until 2000 and I can name many other companys who still havent done the risk assessments or anything else.
I have also spoken to Inspectors from the HSE and various Environmental Health Departments who claim the regs are stupid and wouldnt even consider any action for failure to comply. They usually state "How many people are killed by their computer at work?".

Maybe not many are killed, but a heck of a lot are seriously injured/disabled

The main effects relate to the DSE Regs with regard to persons previously not considered to be designated users. I have also had to revise our manual handling risk assessment form to include the additional items to be considered as part of the assessment.
