Does anyone know of any information leaflets aimed at shiftworkers that gives them information/advice about things like:
Whether best to go to sleep straight after a shift or stay up.
When to eat your main meal of the day or the importance of still having regular meals etc.
Thanks in anticipation of your replies

Jo,
HSG48 Reducing Error and Influencing Behaviour gives a good chapter relating to shift work.
Sorry I cannot be more specific due to the fact someone has borrowed our office copy and not brought it back, oh yes it was me !!
Regards
Lee.

HSG48 is well worth looking at, but speaking from 31 years experience of shift working, 7 of those on nights regular, (no comments about age please Mr. Bennett!!!) some people never seem to adapt no matter what they do.
The ones that do seem to do best though are the ones who are able to follow a routine as close to "normal" as possible, including:
At the end of a shift, go home, have a meal, spend 2 - 3 hours doing an activity that would normally be done after work e.g. gardening, walking the dog, etc. before going to bed. Wake up in time to have "breakfast", maybe walk the dog again, then off to work. Lunch around 02:00, etc. etc.
For all that, it is easier said than done and like I said, some people will never adapt.
Regard,
Ian
