Posted By allan wood myself and a number of my co-workers have informed our employer that we are due to have refresher courses for confined space entry.however he seems reluctant to send us for the refresher course stating that we are trained already.some people should have had the refresher course in the summer. our employer still expects us to enter confined spaces. any comments would be welcome. regards allan wood

Posted By Nigel Singleton BSc note 115 Practical refresher training should be organised and available. The frequency with which refresher training is provided will depend upon how long since the type of work was last done, or if there have been changes to methods of work, safety procedures or equipment. Quote from Confined spaces ACOPS Hope this helps

Posted By Laura Reed Allan, The frequency of refresher training if no other conditions have changed (as per previous posting) is determined by whether or not your employer is confident that all people working within the mentioned confined spaces are competent to work there safely. Perhaps you could question him on this point and how he is assessing your competence. Regards, Laura

Posted By Stuart Nagle Allan. Ansewer thes simple questions to se if you need refresher training.... 1) expalin in detail the pre user checks on the escape and/or full BA sets you use 2) details the safe system of work you would employ for a 4 man entry into a walk through confined space between 2 manholes 75 metres apart with a partial continue flow of water/sewage 3) describe the requirements and uitems to consider in carrying out a risk assessment for the protection of rescuers in the event of an emeregency. If you cannot answer these off the top of your head you need to do a refresher course. If on the other hand you are working in relatively complicated confined spaces situations regularly, this should be quite easy for you... Regards... ~~~~~~~~~~~~
