I am looking for COSHH information on the contents of a max min thermometer.
I have contacted the supplier to no avail.
My friend was repairing it when it broke and the fluid inside gave off a strong smoky burning smell and the liquid burned his hand.
Any info appreciated.

Ian,
Usually Alcohol (Ethanol). If so, the burning sensation is cold from the alcohol evaporating, it would also sting if in contact with damaged or sensitive skin.
However the supplier is obliged to give you the relevant hazard data. After all, it is reasonably forseeable that a thermometer could be broken and someone come into contact with the contents.
