Posted By Ian Clay Is there a minimum size of screen for use with computers. I thought it was 15"?

Posted By Debbie Rose I was under the impression it was that also. Nothing is set in stone on this or in the regs

Posted By Ken Taylor As the Regulations cover a range of display screens rather than just desk-top monitors, it would have been difficult to state a minimum screen size. However, the requirement is for screen characters to be well-defined, clearly-formed, of adequate size and adequate spacing. In practice this tends to mean a min 15" screen for standard desk-top monitors - although I go for 17" whenever suitable.

Posted By John Webster Size, as they say, is not important. It really does depend upon how much information you need to display at one time. A good quality 9inch black and white screen (as per old Macintosh SE30s), with correct contrast and brightness can be better than a poorly set up 17 inch colour monitor. The problem is that modern software generates so many toolbars etc that the actual information window is often no bigger than a 9 inch screen anyway. One aspect which seems little discussed, but I find very important, is Refresh Rate. Many monitors default to something like 60Hz. I am not alone in finding this gives me a headache (from the almost imperceptible flicker) which disappears when I reset this to 70 or 72Hz.

Posted By Debbie Rose I agree in that size does not matter, of course re screens! The problem with bigger than 15" is that unless your company has already invested in good quality desks and space, the issues become that the depth becomes bigger causing problems. Flat screens appear not to cause as much problems with eye strain and headaches, and of course fit on most desks!
