Posted By Ashley Williams Vicky It depends on how much the contractor wants to charge you. They all charge different amounts some are reasonable and some are not. It pays to look around. Ashley

Posted By michael cope With ref to your Portable Appliance Testing problem This may help, you can purchase a PAC500SP Portable Appliance Safety Tester from Parker Bell for around £400.00-£500.00. this product is supplied complete with a training video and you do not have to be a qualified electrician to carry out the testing, all it requires is a competent person to operate the equipment. You can also purchase replacement labels for atatching to the pulg of the unit. Our company did previously use an outside supplier to carryout this operation, at a considerable cost per year we now save money and control out equipment testing far better than before. the web site is www.parker-bell.co.uk hope this is of use Mike Cope

Posted By Frank Hayes Vicky A good response from other members and I concur that the average cost to test each item is around £1.50. Prices vary according to contractor and the scope of works. Prices should reduce considerably if you have many items of portable electrical equipment to test. A good PAT testing contractor should raise a PAT asset register for you showing the test results albeit it pass or fail and should be retained for audit purposes and of course reference. Ensure that tested items have been suitably labeled and endorsed with the next test due date. Also ensure that any portable electrical appliances that have failed such a PAT test is removed from the workplace and safely disposed of or repaired and retested. Please be aware that extra precautions need to be maintained whilst testing IT portable electrical equipment. A PAT flash test will damage electronic components. I hope that this help. Kind regards Frank W Hayes
