Posted By Chris Mode We have just occupied a new warehouse building. It has been fitted with raised temperature controlled gas heaters. We store clothing and carpets. Various members of staff want to store their cars in the building overnight. Are there any health and safety impications?

Posted By Gavin Gibson Not a good idea. Vehicles solely for use inside a warehouse are normally electrically powered, vehicles that travel in and out the warehouse are normally LPG powered and external only vehicles are petrol / diesel powered. The key issue is one of exhaust fumes within the building - higher levels of carbonmonoxide & dioxide and an increase in the risk of damage to other cars or the building. Are you prepared to accept liability for the security of the cars? What if somebody wishes to refill their petrol tank - think of the fire risk. Pedestrians and cars should be kept seperate. I suggest you think again.

Posted By Stuart Nagle Chris. You need to check your insurance for this one and see if private motor vehicles are covered. I had a similar question asked by a colleague and on checking the insurance found that it was permissable, but we have not got the range of flammable goods that you have!!
