Posted By Paul I want to implement a behavioural safety programme in my workplace. One of the systems I intend to use is to get the Managers back to the floor asking questions, identifying hazards, identifying unsafe behaviours and rewarding safe behaviour. Does anyone have a form ready-made for this type of exercise. The form will be used to track actions etc and the information entered into a database to get a summary of the stats. rgds Paul

Posted By Dave Wilson Paul, What worked for us was quite simple. We produced a spread sheet of all depts and got agreement for all managers to undertake a 'safety walkround'(once a month) using a form which was copied to the HS&E Dept. (Irrespective of what dept they worked in) what transpired is that this Positive safety culture started to get better as time went by and our people started to notice if the management walkround were not completed. The RA and tracking actions will come soon after the walkrounds start as the management want to see improved results and less performance. Never measure against accident stats (Personal opinion) measure what you want to get done and wheter the management do it? and The management were not measured on the 'quality' of the safety walkround but as to whether they actually bothered to do it, this also included the MD. (good idea to give the the actual names of persons who were injured or had an accident the previous month before hand, this was great as it appeared that management actually cared and new what went on.) Results publised on a monthly basis and named and shamed persons who didn't complete, sending a deputy was not allowed. 3 line whip. Tie this in to PRP for 1st year, if poss, and hey presto 100% success, but what then happens is that the managers are now looking to what new things they can do for safety year on year. This makes your job more demanding as you find that managers then know and understand what it is you are trying to achieve and can see the results.
