Posted By Peter J Harvey I am currently writing guidance for our refuse staff on the reversing of vehicles, this is interesting in that unlike many other HGV reversing activities, there is no controlled working environment. The HSE guidance in INDG 148 is useful, however I would be interested to know of other organisations willing to share any guidance they have issued. Peter Harvey MIOSH

Posted By smudge Peter we have much the same problem with fire service vehicles at incidents. The only advice I can offer is to ensure that pilots are used whenever reversing takes place. It may be of some interest to you to know that two thirds of our accidents involve low speed manouevering.
