Hi there,
Can anyone recommend/suggest an appropriate method of keeping up to date with Health and Safety? I have heard of HSE direct, is it any good? Or is there similar providers that may be available?
Help would be appreciated.

You can subscribe to Croner's Health and Safety, the bulletins which are fortnightly are an invaluable source of up to date information and new regulations.

I have used technical index, croners, Silver Platter (as was), Croners and HSE Direct. A good broad mix would be by subscribing to Croners for the newsletter - a broad analysis of current topics and HSE Direct, a cost effective means of access to Regs and ACOPs. Of course if all you want is the odd piece of information, why not ask the Tech Info people at IOSH - its part of the perks of membership

this will give you an alerts page which will come up on your e-mail once or twice a week and covers subjects from all over the world.

Croners also do a legislation tracker which pops up on the e-mail when any new legislation, ACoPs, Consultation, Guidance etc is on it's way.
Might be a good idea if IOSH did a "What's new" daily notice-board, especially as the web-site seems to be enjoying a surge in popularity.

Try contacting Helen Taft at Synergetic (e-mail enquiries@synergeticsolutions.biz) they provide a 'Proative Legislative Up-date Service' (PLUS), which is an electronic e-mail service notifying of changes to Environmental, Health & Safety Legislation.
They offer a 3 months free (non-obligatory) subscription

Our organisation subscribes to the Barbour-Index professional series.
As well as full text documents of legislation, ACOP's and guidance there is a weekly 'briefing' which contains a legislation diary.

You have to search through a lot of other non H&S legislation but I have found a few important things on this website that were not on HSE site etc, for example on traffic management
