Apologies if this should be on the study support forum...

Having been a h&s practitioner for some time, I am about to add 'the environment' to my job description and need to back this up with some sort of qualification over and above my existing NEBOSH diploma.

From the promo material that I've got, there seems to be three options I could take - either the NEBOSH specialist diploma, or the IEMA certificate in environmental management by themselves, or both together. If anyone had an opinion on the relative merits of these, or knew of any other useful options I should be considering, I'd be grateful to hear from you.

I've also noticed that some training providers require you to take the IEMA certificate before studying for the NEBOSH specialist diploma, but not all, and that the amount of time allowed for completion of the specialist diploma in particular varies wildly from 5 to 15 days. If anyone could throw some light on why this is, I'd also be very grateful!

thanks in anticipation,

Euan

Euan,

When I did my IEMA Certificate I was informed by the training organisation (EEF through Woodland Grange in Leamington Spa) that if I wanted to go on and do the IOSH Specialist Diploma I would only need to do another weeks training.

Regards,

Paul

Euan,

It got me confused too.

As Paul said, there is a staged route to the Env Diploma - 5 days Managing Environmental Responsibilities + 5 days IEMA Cert + 5 days to gain Diploma (This is probably where the 15 days comes from).

ALternatively, you can just start Diploma from scratch assuming you are TechSp or higher (or have relevant qualifications).

I am just about to take Env Diploma exams, I started from scratch via distance learning.

Kind regards

Nick

Paul/Nick,

thanks for your responses - it sounds as if the end point/most appropriate qualification is the NEBOSH specialist diploma, the others are things one might choose to pick up along the way, depending on the training provider. Or is this an oversimplification...?

thanks again,

Euan

Euan,

I felt the NEBOSH Env Diploma was ideal for me as it is aimed at H&S Professionals who wish to expand their area of expertise.

It's also a good qualification as it gives you more post nominal letters. Plus, if you've done NEBOSH qualifications before, the format will be of no surprise.

At the end of the day, you pays your money, you takes your choice.

Kind regards

Nick

Euan,

Unless you can assimilate a lot of material in a very short space of time, then I suggest you take the diploma route over a full term. 15 days to complete the diploma, wow! a big well done to those that have done it.

Regards,

Paul.

Euan,

I have just completed and passed the NEBOSH Env Dip and it can be quite hard going, what part of the Env do you wish to 'add' to your title.

If you are part of an organisation which has "limited" impact on the Environment or in an organisation which has an authoristaion or permit under IPC / IPPC then you may need more specialist help to gain this.

If you have no idea what the above means then suggest that you do the Cert first for background and then the Spec Env Dip as the Exams and case study are NEBOSH Dip standard.

Email me if you want any further info mate.
