Posted By Ian Mycroft In our mess mess rooms we have "kitchen areas" where staff can heat/cook their own food. These areas contain microwaves, toasters, kettles and a sink for washing up. One of our supervisors has asked for blue detectable plasters in case anyone preparing food has a cut. I am not sure about this, but my feeling is that they are not necessary because they are only preparing food for themselves. Can anyone advise on this please? Ian

Posted By Dave Wilson They are easily seen in food thats why they are Blue or any other bright colour, you may find that the cost is the same as normal plasters so may not be worth worrying about.

Posted By Hilary Charlton The occurrence of food that is actually blue is very very rare, hence blue plasters. However, as Dave says, they are about the same price as the standard pink plasters so if it makes them happy - why not?

Posted By John Webster ...although you are quite right believing that they are not actually necessary since they are only preparing food for themselves.

Posted By ron mott Ian, in line with the rest of opinions, they are blue ,so detectable in food and also have a thin metal strip for detection in food manufacture x-ray process, any medical product supplier will supply them to you,but if you are not preparing food for others, are not really necessary
