Can anyone help please - when does "play" or "fun" equipment become Playground Equipment to which BSEN 1176&7 apply. Whilst organisations like RoSPA and National Playing Fields Assoc offer advice, they all seem to be BSEN based - is that my yardstick then? If so is anyone able to give me the gist of the requirements of the BSEN. Thanks in advance.

There is a HELA on this which you might find helpful:

http://www.hse.gov.uk/lau/lacs/79-2.htm

There is also a recent HSE research paper:

http://www.hse.gov.uk/re...rr_pdf/2002/crr02426.pdf

The researcher also wrote 'A holistic approach to accident and injury prevention in children's playgrounds' in the late 1980's.
