Hi Folks
I'm getting a lot of conflicting opinions/messages from people regarding PTS (personal track safety)courses.
At present the basic course is 2-day but due to the introduction of the Track Induction Course?(TIC) the minimum training requirements for rail work will now be 5 days...or is it 10 days?
Our company do both intrusive & non-intrusive work on the rail infrastructure - 10 days seems excessive for work which basically entails walking down the line taking measurments
I've heard that the day for implementation is 9th June 2003 with all new rail workers after that date having to complete the TIC by September.
Does any one have a definitive answer? Its hard to tell if someone is being genuine or trying to sell me a course I dont need.

Posted By Paul Crump I work in the rail industry and hold a current pts certificate. I was under the impression that the new 5 day course was only applicable to new staff and that the refresher training for existing certificate holders was two days. I may be wrong though. I would contact network rail or the rail and safety standards board and ask for advice. www.railwaysafety.org.uk.
