Posted By Malcolm Hogarth I am trying to find a company that carries out inspections of ladders and steps (in the Cambridgeshire area). Can anybody point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Posted By Miriam Malcolm: I assume this is about inspecting the condition of ladders, rather than safe use. SGB Youngman in West Sussex, Tel: 01621 745703 make/supply different kinds of ladders. They may be able to recommend a company in Cambs and advise on inspecting ladders yourself. This is relatively simple: Stepladders (wood and aluminium) check: Sides are not twisted, split, broken (wood)or dented (alu). Treads are not loose, broken, free of dirt, grease, paint. Feet rubber protection pads are not worn/missing (alu ladders). Platform catch engages properly when ladder is fully open. Crossbars are not loose/broken (wood); dented (alu). No screws/rivets are loose/missing which secure treads/crossbars to the sides; holds two sections together at the top. Alu Extension Ladders check: Sides are not dented. Treads/Feet same checks as for stepladders. Hooks which couple inner/outer sections together are not bent/missing. Hope this is of some help.
