Posted By Andy Petrie We had a fire alarm earlier today and we evacuated into the assembly area in the car park behind our building. While we were there several people got in their cars and drove away, other people also entered the car park. (there is only one way in/out). I personally think this should not be allowed as a car leaving the property may block the road for a fire engine on it's way in. Also driving through a crowd of 100+ people is never a bright idea. Does anyone have any views/experience on this topic.

Posted By Lee Thompson Andy, I completely agree that the access to the building needs to be kept clear for the fire brigade and that vehicles should not be used during an alarm. To ensure that this isnt a problem we informed all staff that they should not attempt to leave/use their vehicles during a fire alarm. We also post our security personnel at the entrance/exit to the car park to ensure that no vehicles enter, or leave for that matter. Our fire assembly point is unavoidably in our car park and to try to reduce the risk of the fire brigade having to drive through a crowd of up to 200-300 people our security staff also attempt to ensure "evacuees" are kept well out of harms away at the far end of the car park (where they should be)at all times!
