Posted By Phil Rundle Hi, I'm starting a research project into "Employee Exposure to Wood Dust in Secondary School Workshops" (for a MSc dissertation) and I wondered if anyone knows of any previous research in similar areas? Thanks

Posted By Chris Pope I assist a few independant schools and would be very interested in your findings. One employee seemed to get a rash during a short period following machining of MDF. MJ Flannery Hon research Fellow University of Exeter published MDF an interim H&S report in Feb 1998 23 pages ref ISBN 0953 2534 06 - see if you can get a copy - one observation he made was on the persistence of MDF fibres up to 48 hrs after machining they were still floating around

Posted By Phil Rundle Thanks Sorry for the delay in reply.
I know Mike Flannery - he used to work in my area. His report was OK - but only raised questions - not answers. Also, from memory, there was little in the way of linking exposure to ill-health effects. Although there was some interesting stuff about particle size.
My research will not be specifically looking at MDF but will be evaluating the incidence of ill health against actual exposure and against recognised exposure standards.
Hopefully it will be published when finished - and i'll certainly let you know what I find.
