Has anybody any thoughts on refresher training for Fork lift and Ped truck drivers. Five years is usually recommended by training providers. Is this absolutely necessary? Is comprehensive, documented refresher training itself necessary?

Our trainer recommends every 3 years or following an accident or prolongued absence, or whenever you believe the operators standards are slipping. We accept the trainer's advise on this issue and adopt it as best practice. The question you should ask yourself with regard to documented refresher training: - If one of your flt operators is involved in an accident, how will you prove, in court, that you have ensured that operator is competent to use that work equipment?

Try logging onto the hse website http://www.hse.gov.uk/lau/lacs/32-7.htm
which contains some very useful info concerning training/retraining of forklift Ops.
