Has anyone got a generic method of risk assessing childrens play areas. Mainly looking at the environment, but also the equipment. I am about to embark on this task and wondered if anyone had a good method to follow. Any help would be appreciated.

BS EN 1176 might be a good starting point

Yes BS EN 1176 Parts 1 - 7 deal with the standards for playground equipment and BS EN 1177 deals with impact absorbing surfacing.
You might also find RoSPA some help as they produce anumber of documents relating to playground safety including inspection and maintenance. The Association of Play Industries (API) also produce a guide to outdoor play area installation - but I have to say that both API and RoSPA guidance is based on the BS EN documents above.
