Posted By Liz Johnston We are considering using the 'Bradford Score' for sickness absence monitoring. Does anyone else use this method and if so do you have any set triggers? Does anyone know the rationale behind it other than it puts the emphasis on frequency of absences rather that duration? Any clues to where I can get info? Liz

Posted By simon carrier Our HR use it here to try and encourage people not to have sick days. Not really convinced that it is a good system as we worked out that we could have 15 days off without being "Bradforded" anyway the link below gives you a lot of info about it http://www.incomesdata.co.uk/studies/bradford.htm

Posted By Gilly Margrave Basically the Bradord Factor is a formula for rating sickness absence by which "A" represents the number of periods of absence and "B" represents the number of days absence both over a 52 week reference period. A X A X B = Score This means the scale is weighted so that 14 absences of 1 day would score 2744 whilst one absence of 14 days would only score 14. Scores over an agreed level would trigger some kind of agreed intervention. The idea is to alert managers about patterns of absence which need further examination.
